Houndstooth is a personal favorite of mine because it's so classic, elegant, and yet simple. It is a timeless elegant print that will never go out of style no matter what year it is houndstooth will always be around. One of the reasons it will never go out of style is because no matter how much fashion trends change you can still work around the pattern, and it remains its classic feel and still modern. There are just some fashion garments that will never go out of style and houndstooth has proven throughout the years that it can stand the test of time and never fade away.
Before I get into why houndstooth is such a beautiful style I'll give you a brief history on the style. Houndstooth gained its name because the pattern resembles the shape of a dog's tooth. While the pattern is over a century old it gained its popularity during the 1930's. This specific pattern has a rich history, and it has become synonymous with wealth and style and many name brands have used this print.
The reason I love the print because it looks so classy and elegant without having to try and all you really need are simple accessories to wear houndstooth because the print itself speaks volumes. Now the print comes in a multitude of colors which is great if you love the print but want a bit of a twist to the classic black and white version. One of the great things about houndstooth is that it has yet to go out of style and has become a classic which means you can wear it in a classic way and still look modern at the same time. Or you can wear it in a modern way and still look classic and chic.
The print is so classic so make sure what you're wearing goes well together and be well polished and groomed to uphold the rich history of the print. While I believe in adding statement pieces and bold colors and accessories to an outfit, but I believe when you're wearing houndstooth you should keep it simple. My opinion the accessories you add to the outfit don't have to overshadow the print. Keep your hair beautiful and bouncy, your nails polished, simple makeup and add simple jewelry. Of course, you could never go wrong with a bold lip and a pair of cat eye sunglasses.
Now we all know shoes make the outfit so a classic pair of red shoes with a houndstooth dress, skirt, or blouse will keep the look classic and sophisticated with a pair of sunglasses to top it off. If you choose to wear a different color of the houndstooth pattern and you want to keep the look chic but classy I would suggest a solid pair that would compliment the colors well. For instance if the colors are blue and black a pair of nude shoes or gray shoes will go well.
When donning houndstooth whether it's a dress, skirt, blouse, pants, jacket, coat, cape, or shoes walk confidently and be graceful. You shouldn't count on the clothes making you, you should make the clothes. Try smiling more and be easy going and be opened to having a conversation which will give off a positive impression.
