Updated: Aug 21, 2023

We've all heard and seen the must have "work essentials" and a red dress may not be on the list for many women. It's understandable the color itself is too loud and can be seen as aggressive and sultry which to many people isn't professional. However, I do believe a lot of it has to do with how you wear red and how you present yourself. In my opinion of course, if the dress has a conservative neckline, it is possible to look professional. I'm fully aware despite these tips I'm about to share some people will still have their doubts. However, these tips will help you on how to wear a red dress to work and still look professional and modest.

A few years ago I wrote an article for allwomenstalk.com on how to style a red dress like a model https://fashion.allwomenstalk.com/how-to-wear-a-red-dress-like-a-model/. However, this article will be tips on how to wear one for work and still look professional and sleek.

  1. Keep the neckline of the dress conservative.

  2. The dress can be form fitting or it can be an a-line dress.

  3. Add a blazer, a cardigan, or a tailored jacket.

  4. Keep the statement accessories at home and stick to the basics such as studs, pearls and small diamonds or crystals and a nice watch to match.

  5. When choosing heels you can go for the classic black or nude heels or a printed shoe while keeping the rest of the accessories to a minimal.

  6. Keep the makeup as neutral as possible. The dress itself is enough and will garner enough attention.

  7. For a more corporate environment you can put your hair up in a French twist, a chignon, or loose waves.

8. Most importantly wear it with confidence and maintain dignity and professionalism.
