No wardrobe should ever go without the little black dress. The LBD has become a staple piece for many women for many decades because it's such an easy dress to wear. You can dress it up or down, wear from day to night, add pop up of colors for accessories, and be extremely comfortable depending on the dress you've chosen. You can style the LBD in more than one way and for any occasion.
I will give you some ideas that will help you not only on how to dress the LBD but, also how to look confident especially on days you don't know what to wear. These tips can be used as a guide for anything you choose to wear not just the LBD. That is what makes style and fashion so great, and that is creativity and versatility.
At Work
When you are at work you want to look professional and put together. However, who ever said, " You can't mix professionalism and fashion?" I would argue that is a time to be the most creative in a very professional way of course. For instance, if the environment you work is very corporate then you can wear a peplum, wrap or a form fitting dress with a conservative neckline.
Stick to classics such as pearls, studs, or small diamonds and that goes for earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings. If you're able to wear statement pieces, then go for the statement necklace over the statement earrings. I enjoy statement earrings but for work they can be a little much especially if it's more of a corporate setting although little hoops should work too.
To pull this look together top it off with a blazer or a cardigan, shoes that will make the outfit and your favorite work handbag. For makeup, go for more earthy tones with loose waves or a low chignon and you're ready for the day.
Special Occasion
This can be fun because you are no longer at work, and you have free rein on how to dress around your LBD. Go for the statement pieces or stick to the classics. Add sparkle to the look with shoes you've been saving to wear for a special occasion. Now here's your chance to wear the dress you've been saving for a special occasion. You can either wear your hair up or down with a lot of volume. Exchange the lipstick you wore for work for a bolder lip that will make a special someone take notice.
Casual Outing
For a more casual feeling opt for a pair of wedges or flats to stay comfortable and chic. Keep the accessories light and casual with a slouchy bag or a cross body bag. During the warmer months you go for a light denim jacket. For the colder months a peacoat will work, paired with riding boots and a floppy hat.
Date Night
Probably the most exciting of events being with the one that has captured your heart. Try wearing something you'll know he'll like. From what I can tell men don't care for a smokey eye or too much makeup and they prefer your hair to be loose. Keep the make-up light and your hair in loose waves and he'll love looking at you. Depending on where the date is keeping the LBD semi casual by dressing it up with a pop of color with your shoes. If you're going to a more formal date, then take the tips from my special occasion tips. They'll work just the same for a date night.
