How To Style A Blazer For Work

Updated: Aug 21, 2023

You can never go wrong with a tailored blazer or even a slightly oversized blazer. Blazers can fit almost any work environment from a super casual work environment to a more formal office environment and even creative jobs. You can either opt for a bold printed blazer like a leopard print blazer or a solid blazer it all depends on how you dress them.

My aim is to let women know that most pieces work for any occasion and it's all how you wear them and accessorize them that can make or break the outfit.

The following tips will go well for any office environment:

Professional Environment: If you're working in a more professional setting, you can either opt for the basic standard black or navy-blue blazer. However, if you want to change things up a bit and go for a printed blazer keep the rest of the outfit solid. For instance, if you've chosen to wear a leopard print blazer, then try a pairing the blazer with a black blouse, black slacks or ankle pants and heels with a pop of color either a dark red shore, blue or purple heels. Keep the accessories to a minimal with stud earrings, a simple necklace, and your favorite work handbag. If you would like to leave the pants for another day, then go for a figure-hugging modest dress or a crisp blouse underneath with a pencil skirt and the accessories can stay the same. However, for the outfit below I opted for a cape blazer to give this professional look a more stylish finish. I paired it with a red figure-hugging dress and a pearl necklace. Since both the blazer and dress are solid colors, I decided to add shoes that had a print and either pair will go well with the outfit.

Casual Environment: Any blazer of your choosing but for a different look you might want to go for a slightly oversized blazer. Pair the blazer with skinny pants, stripped loose fitting top, flats or heels, and a statement necklace. If the environment is casual, you can always wear jeans instead of regular office pants. When it comes to fashion sometimes you want to experiment with certain colors and styles, so I mixed colors that don't always get paired together. I decided to mix burgundy and navy blue with a gold statement necklace and a pair of flats to complete the look.

Creative Environment or Self Employed: Now for many women this can be the most fun of all because you have the freedom to dress your blazer any way you want but you still want to look appropriate. For a bit of a twist, a bold printed blazer will do the trick. However, the rest of the outfit doesn't have to be as fitted. If you plan on wearing a dress with the blazer, try a loose flowing dress. Finish the outfit off with bold accessories and during the colder months choose booties or boots instead of your typical work heels. I came across this outfit and its perfect for the creative role or the self-employed role because it screams fashion, but it still is appropriate. It's conservative but the colors and the print are so bold, but they flatter each other and balance each other out very well. With an outfit like this you must wear it with confidence, and you'll unquestionably turn heads while walking down the street.
