How To Add More Color To Your Wardrobe?

Updated: Aug 14, 2023

Sometimes we get comfortable on wearing the same colors repeatedly because we either like them, feel comfortable or sometimes we may not know how to wear different colors. For this article I want to focus on how you can add more color to your wardrobe, carefully and tastefully.

Adding color to your wardrobe can either be exciting or a bit scary because then that would be a change in your life that you're nervous about, which is normal. However, I want to challenge you a bit by getting out of your comfort zone and adding some color to your wardrobe, not just with clothes but with shoes and accessories as well.

Color Analysis

One way to add some color to your wardrobe is through a color analysis, figure out which shades look the best on you. A color analysis is the process of determining which colors go well the undertone, value, and intensity of your skin. Not every shade will suit you, shades that bring out your eyes and don't wash you out are the shades you should add to your wardrobe. Once you've figured out which shades work best for you then it will be easier for you to know which colors you should buy in the future.

Clothes

Now that you know which colors work best for you, you can start on adding color to your wardrobe. We all know about the LBD but how about going for a green, blue, purple, pink, or even a yellow dress. Make sure the fit is right and you'll feel a lot more comfortable than you initially thought you would have before. The same thing for skirts, pants, blouses, and cardigans, choose colors that go out of your comfort zone but that also bring out your eye color and look radiant on you. You might also want to add some color for work but keep it professional by keeping the accessories and the makeup to a minimal. If you want to add a pop of color for work, you can either make the skirt a pop of color while wearing a neutral toned blouse and keep everything else professional. However, for a more social outing don't be afraid to add more colors and go for a bit of a color blocking theme that will guarantee a fresh feel to what you would normally wear. Add colors to items that you have shied away from for a long time such as blazers, button down blouses, skirts, coats, and even pants. Add colors and items to your wardrobe that can be dressed up or down, that way you can experiment with color and keep a decent size wardrobe.

Shoes

Never be afraid to add a pop of color to your shoe collection. This is probably even more fun to add pops of color to your shoe collection than it would be to your clothes. The simple fact is that women love shoes and there doesn't have to be the disappointment or frustration that the fit isn't right. Also, there are plenty of colors and style that you might find in shoes that won't look as well on clothes. Shoes themselves make the outfit and all you are bold color turn the outfit from day to night or casual to formal in an instant.

Handbags/Accessories

I can't speak for everyone on this subject but just for myself, in that I sometimes forget about accessories. Like purses I didn't always make it a priority to obtain better handbags that complete the outfit or that didn't look outdated. Which is a mistake, while shoes make the outfit the accessories complete the outfit. If you have on an outfit that is professional or you're going out and the handbag you have on has seen better days than it kind of brings the outfit down a bit. This defeats the purpose of a stylish new look. The handbags don't have to be outrageously expensive, but quality handbags are an important part of a fresh and stylish wardrobe. If you're still unsure about adding color to your wardrobe, then start by adding colors to your handbag collection to at least add some boldness and creativity to your wardrobe. For more information on the type of handbags you should own or want to own look at a previous article I wrote about handbags.

This is also helpful for other accessories such as scarves, hats, gloves and even jewelry. For the colder months scarves and hats are a good way to add color without changing your whole wardrobe.
